Hanauma Bay Nature Park is one of the more popular
recreational swimming, snorkeling and picnicing areas on Oahu. This
sunken volcanic crater is a snorkeler's paradise, with thousands of
tropical fish and other marine animals, a few turtles, and a pristine
coral reef in fairly shallow water, at most 20 feet deep. This
"Curved" bay was declared a protected marine life
conservation area and underwater park in 1967. This is the very best
beach area if you are new to Scuba diving or snorkeling with a
diversified population of fish and a rich coral reef. The bay is the
result of the ocean's breaching and incursion into two volcano craters.
