Wailea is home to five outstanding 18-hole championship golf
courses, seven award-winning hotels and resorts, a selection of Maui's
leading restaurants, a professional tennis center, superb spa and
health facilities and many of the island's most popular beaches.
Wailea is home to The Shops at Wailea. Located in the
Wailea Resort, the shops are considered the most beautiful and
exclusive shopping center in Hawaii.
Wailea hosts some of Maui's great beaches
including Wailea Beach, Ulua Beach, Mokapu Beach and Polo Beach. Some
rankings have Wailea Beach deemed the "Best Beach in America
!" The beach has protected calm waters, fine soft sand, and is
surrounded by pleasant scenery. The gentle slope of the shoreline makes
this a perfect place for children, swimmers and beginner snorkelers.
When conditions are calm, Ulua Beach is one of the best snorkeling
sites in the area and beginning scuba classes are often conducted here.
When the surf is up, however, Ulua has some of the better swells around
and attracts both body and board surfers. Ulua offers a large crescent
of white sand extending south, with most activities originating on the
northern end. A picnic area, public restrooms and showers are also
available.
Mokapu Beach is pure white sand with calm tides. Mokapu Beach offers
outstanding snorekeling right off the shore. Visibility can be around 100
feet in some areas. There is a healthy supply of colorful sea life and
sea turtles. About 100 yards off shore is an area called "Turtle
City" where catamarans will stop by with snorkelers for a few
hours. Mokapu Beach has about 100 parking spaces, restrooms and
showers, but no lifeguards.
Polo Beach is backed by resorts and private homes. On calm days, the snorkeling here
can rival that of Ulua and Keawakapu, and when the surf is up the
offshore bodyboarding can be as good as anywhere in the area.
Facilities here are top notch, with shaded parking and paved walkways.
