Aloha, and welcome to Lava Tree Tropic Inn. You are invited to relax and enjoy our tropical paradise. Imagine yourself floating in a volcanic hot pond next to the ocean, surrounded by swaying palm trees, watching aquamarine waves breaking on nearby rocks.

Or stroll through neighboring Lava Tree State Park amongst regal monkey-pod trees, and marvel at the storybook Ohia tree stumps, covered in lava over two centuries ago.

Just 25 miles south of Hilo, in the lush Puna district of the Big Island of Hawaii, this tranquil haven is nestled in the heart of a magical rainforest, fragrant with scents of ginger, plumeria, and passionflower. The temperature is balmy year round.

Though delightfully secluded, the Lava Tree Tropic Inn is also close to waterfalls, orchid farms, botanical gardens, black sand beaches, natural sauna steam caves, and of course, the breathtaking lava flow from Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.

Cancellation Policy

Refunds are made if cancellation is received more than 14 days prior to your scheduled arrival date, or if we are able to rebook your room. A twenty dollar fee applies to all cancellations. Gift certificate reservations are subject to the same rule.

Directions

Upon exiting the airport, turn left on Hwy. 11 for 7 miles. Turn left on Hwy. 130 towards Pahoa, approximately 10 miles, to Hwy. 132 (Pahoa-Kapoho intersection). Turn left at the intersection, and drive 3 miles to the entrance to Lava Tree State Park. Turn left at the sign. Continue straight. Where the road curves to the left, you'll find a red cinder dirt road with a "Private, 10mph" sign. The Inn is 350 yards ahead. Turn right at the gate with the flagpole.
